Examination Committee

Aim/ Objective:-

The Examination Committee must guarantee the quality, clarity, accuracy of the internal examination and the marks allotted to the students. For this purpose, Administration allots certain tasks and powers to the Examination Committee.

Functions-

  • To establish procedures and instructions for assessing and determining the results of examinations.
  • To safeguard the quality of the examination procedures.
  • To determine whether a student meets the requirements with regard to knowledge, insight and skills, which are laid down in the program and examination regulations, for obtaining internal marks.
  • To improve and control the quality of internal examinations to be conducted at institute level.

Responsibilities-

  1. All members of committee have meeting time to time for improvement of quality and clarity in examination.
  2. Committee has formulated the guidelines, rules and regulations for all internal examinations.
  3. Members of committee give their suggestions and directions for smooth conduction of examination.
  4. Committee take whole sole responsibilities for fairness in the examination.
  5. Quality of question papers to Moderation, committee for moderation of all the subjects where pattern, marking scheme, quality, Bloom’s taxonomy level and out of syllabus questions are checked and necessary correction in question papers are suggested.
  6. Solving grievances, if any, with respect to examination work.
  7. Maintenance of all records related to examination.
  8. Committee scrutinize all internal marks (sessional) before uploading the university web portal.
  9. Ensures the uploading of internal marks in the university web portal before the commencement of end exams.
  10. After declaration of results, compiling and comparing of the results along with the tabulation is carried out.

Tests and Examination-

  1. The performance of a student in a semester will be evaluated through continuous class assessment and end semester examination. The continuous assessment shall be based on class tests, assignments/tutorials, quizzes/viva-voce and attendance. Sessional marks shall be awarded at the end of the semester.
  2. Students must take all the examinations and tests conducted by the institute. Absence from a test will result in the forfeiture of their internal marks (Sessional marks).
  3. Late/non-submission of assignments (which are part of the internal assessment) will result in the reduction of internals.
  4. Students are required to possess 80% attendance to be permitted to take the internal examinations.
  5. There will be two internal tests and one pre-semester exam. Test I will be after completion of unit I & II, Test II after completion of unit III & IV and Pre-semester exam after completion of unit V.
  6. Make-up test/Re-test may be held only for those students who could not appear in any one of mid-term class tests due to genuine reasons for which the prior permission from Head of Department/Director was taken.

Unfair Means-

  • Possession of any non-permissible material relevant to the examination, including electronic gadgets, mobile phone, written matter on paper, programmable calculator, handkerchiefs, socks, other items of clothing, or on any part of the body.
  • Copying from neighbour’s answer scripts and helping neighbours answer questions.
  • Disobeying the invigilator/other officials or resistance to instruction from authority.
  • Writing on the question paper (other than name or roll. No.) or passing the same to another student (s) in the examination hall.
  • Leaving the examination hall without handing over the question paper, before the time assigned for the examination has ended.

For B.Tech Programme

Sessional Marks-

Sessional marks for theory subjects, practicals and project will be awarded as prescribed and break-up of sessional marks shall be as follows:

Theory Subjects-

  • Class test which will comprise 30% of total theory marks with two mid-term tests of equal weightage.
  • Teacher Assessment Tutorial/Assignment/Quizzes/Attendance comprises 20% of theory marks.

Practicals-

  • Two mid-term viva-voce/tests of equal weightage 30% of total Practical marks.
  • Teacher Assessment Lab, Record/Attendance 20% of total Practical marks.

Seminar industrial training, Educational tour marks-

  • Seminar industrial training, Educational tour marks will be awarded on the basis-
  • Write-up / Report 50%
  • Presentation 50%

Seminar industrial training, Educational tour marks will be awarded by a committee consisting of the following members-

  • Head of Department or his/her nominee.
  • Concerned Officer-Incharge.
  • Senior Faculty Member of the department nominated by HoD.

For M.Tech Programme

AWARD OF SESSIONAL MARKS-

 Sessional marks for theory subjects, practical and seminar will be awarded in the following manner:

  • Theory Subjects:
    • The class test will comprise two-third weightage with two mid-term tests of equal weightage
    • Teacher Assessment Tutorial/Assignment/ Quizzes/ Attendance comprises one third
  • Practical,
    • Two mid-term viva-voce/tests of equal weightage 50%
    • Teacher Assessment: Lab, Record 25%, Attendance 25%
  • The marks of Seminar shall be awarded on the following basis:
    • Write-up / Report 50%
    • Presentation 50%

DISSERTATION SUBMISSION

  • The medium of expression for the dissertation will be English
  • The dissertation will satisfy the following conditions:
  • It should be satisfactory as far as its scientific/technical/literary presentation is concerned. The dissertation should be submitted along with the ‘Originality Report’ using an anti-plagiarism software e.g. Turnitin or similar software. The student shall also provide a certificate of non-plagiarism duly countersigned by the dissertation supervisor/ guide. The colleges will forward the M.Tech thesis along with the Turnitin plagiarism check report having a similarity of less than 20 %.
  • It is presumed that a candidate would endeavour to present quality work in the dissertation leading to get the results published in one International Journal (SCI/SCOPUS indexed (non-paid)) or two International conference papers (e.g. IEEE reviewed conference or equivalent). The thesis evaluation panel will give due consideration to this point while awarding marks for the dissertation. For M.B.A.  Programme

AWARD OF SESSIONAL MARKS

  • Teacher Assessment Tutorial/Assignment/ Quizzes/ Attendance comprises 20% of total theory

AWARD OF SUMMER TRAINING PROJECT REPORTS

Each student has to successfully complete the following project for the award of MBA degree

  • At the end of the second semester examination, it is mandatory for every student of MBA to undergo on-the-job practical training in any manufacturing, service or financial organization. The training will be of 6 to 8 weeks duration.
  • The student, after the completion of training, will submit a report to the Institute which will form part of the third-semester examination.

AWARD OF RESEARCH PROJECT REPORT

In the fourth semester, the candidates will have to submit a Research Project Report on a problem/topic (from the specialization areas) to be assigned by the department MBA under the supervision of a core faculty member of the department.

END SEMESTER EXAMINATION-

(i)               At the end of the semester, the end semester examination has conducted by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University and the end semester examination will be conducted in all lecture-based courses offered in the semester and will normally be of three hours duration unless otherwise specified.

(ii)             The main eligibility criteria for the end semester examination are attendance in the course, internal marks and no pending disciplinary action. The minimum attendance for appearing in the end semester examination is 75% in each course.
