About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Goel Institute of Technology and Management (GITM), Lucknow, is defined by its exceptional record of merit and innovation. At the forefront of its academic success are the prestigious Gold Medal (Mr. Shivam Sen) and Silver Medal (Ms Manisha Awasthi) awarded by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), coupled with the consistent achievement of merit positions in the University Top Ten. These honors are complemented by national-level acclaim, most notably the People’s Choice Award & 3rd Prize (Innovative Agriculture project) won at the India International Science Festival(IISF)-2019 in Kolkata. The department’s research prowess is further evidenced by its two consecutive selections for the Students’ Project Grant by the Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh (CST UP), covering the academic years 2024–25 and 2025–26.

Bridging the gap between the classroom and global industry, the department has been continuously selected since 2021 for the Boeing Workshop conducted at IIT Kanpur, providing students with elite exposure to aerospace engineering. On-campus innovation is driven by specialized Centres of Excellence in collaboration with Royal Enfield and Blue Star, ensuring hands-on mastery of advanced automotive and HVAC systems. Student creativity and leadership are further showcased through the Technovator Technical Club and the publication of the E-Wall Magazine(MECH-VISTA), while practical training is anchored by newly developed, AICTE-compliant workshops and laboratories. These achievements, supported by highly qualified faculty, collectively ignite a spark for continuous learning and professional excellence in every student.

  • After B.Tech (Core): Roles focus on Design (CAD), Production management, and Quality Control across automotive, HVAC, and power sectors. While at Entry Level Opportunities like GTE positions in top PSUs and MNCs provide foundational industrial and cross-departmental experience.
  • After M.Tech (R&D): Specialized careers in Robotics, Simulation (FEA/CFD), and Industrial Data Science drive automation and predictive maintenance,while advance Leads to high-impact roles in Green Energy R&D and Scientific Research at premier labs like ISRO and DRDO.

Head of Department

Mr. Shiv Kumar Head of Department (Mechanical Engineering) With a distinguished career spanning over 17 years in technical education, Mr. Shiv Kumar embodies the department’s commitment to academic excellence and industrial innovation. Serving as the Assistant Professor and Head of the Department at GITM Lucknow since July 2009, he has been instrumental in shaping a curriculum that balances rigorous theoretical knowledge with practical, project-based learning.  He is perusing his Ph.D from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) and. His research interests are diverse, covering critical areas of mechanical engineering such as: Renewable Energy, solar energy, Thermal Engineering,

  • Award-Winning Mentorship: Under his direct guidance, a student-led project for a Semi-automatic Pot making machine won the prestigious People’s Choice Award3rd Prize (Innovative Agriculture project) at the India International Science Festival (IISF) in Kolkata in 2019.
  • Two projects are granted under in CSTUP project grant scheme for the consecutive year 2024-25 and 2025-26 under his mentorship.
  • Academic Leadership: Kumar has served in vital university roles, including Zonal Technical Coordinator and Zonal Sports Coordinator for the Lucknow Zone of AKTU.
  • Professional Development: He actively stays at the forefront of engineering trends, having completed multiple ATAL Faculty Development Programs in Sustainability Engineering, Green Technology, and Manufacturing.
  • He has supervised over 50 undergraduate projects and 20 M.Tech thesis, ensuring that every student is equipped with the state-of-the-art tools necessary for modern engineering practice.

Ever since the establishment of the institution (in 2008), our primary goal for our students is to train future leaders with high-quality engineering education. The aim of the department of Mechanical Engineering is to disseminate knowledge and technologies through quality teaching, research and its applications in mechanical and allied disciplines.To bridge the gap between theory and practice, we have established specialized Centres of Excellence in collaboration with industry giants like Royal Enfield (Advanced Automotive Engineering) and Blue Star (HVAC and Thermal Systems). 

We offer disciplines such as M. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering), B. Tech. and Diploma (Production). Our students have proved their mettle by getting placed in reputed industries of India and abroad. We as a family of Mechanical Engineering strive to excel in all the fields whether it is technical or sports activities, which shows the hunger for knowledge and overall development of students as a whole. 

The Department has state of the art laboratories besides knowledgeable, experienced and dedicated faculties and staff. The students are inculcated with fundamental and technical knowledge to enable them to translate the theoretical knowledge into practical applications. Conferences, workshops and seminars are organized periodically which helps both the staff and students to updates themselves with industries latest happenings. The Department has also proved its potential by guiding students in projects sponsored by the Institution of engineering.

Description:

The program was conducted at the Defence Technology & Test Centre (DTTC), DRDO, Lucknow, from 25th to 27th November 2025, and provided Shortlisted Candidate Mr. Asif Ansari & Mr. Vivek Kumar with hands-on exposure to:

▪ Engineering simulation and analytical techniques
▪ Defence-oriented design applications
▪ Professional workflows using SolidWorks Premium

Seminar on “Innovative Approaches in Railway Wagon Design and Operational Efficiency”

Description: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Goel Institute of Technology and Management, Lucknow, under the flagship of the Innovation Cell, GITM, successfully organized a Seminar on “Innovative Approaches in Railway Wagon Design and Operational Efficiency” on 23rd August, 2025 in offline mode. The resource person for the session was Mr. Vishnu Prakash Mishra, Sr. Section Engineer, Carrier and Wagon, Alambagh, Lucknow, who shared his expertise and practical knowledge of railway engineering.

The seminar witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 50 students, who actively engaged in learning about innovative strategies and modern approaches to railway wagon design and operational efficiency. The session provided valuable insights into how engineering innovation can drive improvements in safety, performance, and sustainability in railway operations, motivating students to think creatively and align their knowledge with real-world applications.

Exposure Visit to Brindavan Bottlers Pvt. Ltd., Banki, Barabanki

Description:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the GITM Innovation Cell organized an Exposure Visit on 20th May 2025 to Brindavan Bottlers Pvt. Ltd., Banki, Barabanki, for Mechanical Engineering students visited the bottling plant to gain practical exposure to industrial operations.
The key objective of the visit was to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world industrial practices. The students gained firsthand understanding of mechanical systems, fluid dynamics in bottling processes, and quality control mechanisms, enriching their academic learning with practical insights.

Industry Exposure Visit to Haidergarh Chinni Mill

Description:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in association with the Training and Placement Cell and the GITM Innovation Cell, organized a highly insightful Industry Exposure Visit to Haidergarh Chinni Mill, Pokhara, Haidergarh, Barabanki-a renowned unit of Balrampur Chinni Mills Ltd., on 14th December 2024.
The objective was to provide students with real-time exposure to the operational and technological advancements in the sugar manufacturing industry, fostering a deeper understanding of industrial practices.
The students were privileged to interact with the mill’s esteemed professionals shared his profound knowledge on the intricate sugar production processes, advanced machinery, and operational strategies, ensuring students gained comprehensive insights into the workings of the plant.This exposure visit enabled students to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications, enriching their technical knowledge and fostering a better understanding of industry dynamics. It was an excellent opportunity for students to learn from experienced professionals, witness real-world engineering challenges, and understand the pivotal role of teamwork and innovation in achieving operational excellence.

Exposure Visit to Britannia Industries Limited, Barabanki

Description:

Department of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with GITM Innovation Cell & Training and Placement Cell organized an Exposure Visit for Fostering Innovation and Problem Ideation at Britannia Industries Limited, Barabanki.
Students explored innovative and sustainable practices transforming the Food Product industry, ranging from sophisticated waste disposal solutions to eco-friendly manufacturing techniques. Britannia Industries Limited is establishing new benchmarks in environmentally-friendly food production, the combination of innovative technology with conventional methods enhances efficiency and promotes environmental sustainability. All students were Motivated by the industries’ staff’s dedication to excellence and environmental responsibility.

BOEING NATIONAL AEROMODELLING FESTIVAL-BEIA” in IIT Kanpur under “TECHKRITI

Description: “A team of 5 members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering club “TECHNOVATOR”, GITM in association with Innovation Cell, attended a 2-days workshop on “BOEING NATIONAL AEROMODELLING FESTIVAL-BEIA” on 6th – 7th January 2024 in IIT Kanpur under “TECHKRITI”. A total of 390 teams applied for the workshop from various institutions across the country. In total, 30 teams were nominated, including our team, ‘STARWINGS’.
Participating in such workshops is a great way to enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of aeromodelling for the students of Mechanical Engineering. In the workshop, they gained knowledge from experienced professionals under the mentorship of Prof. Shantanu Bhattacharya through practical exposure and also made a network with fellow participants. Such events contribute significantly to the overall learning experience and personal development of individuals interested in mechanical engineering and innovation. All the members of the team got the certificate of participation and were encouraged for the next round.

CIPET: IPT, Lucknow visit

Description:

Department of Mechanical Engineering organizes Exposure/Field Visit for Problem Identification in Plastic Manufacturing Technology at CIPET: IPT, Lucknow.
Students were briefed about Tool Room, Processing, Room, CAD/CAM/CAE Department, and Testing and Calibration Lab. Students visited various units in CIPET and learned about plastic material and their applications , moulding machine for plastic processing
 Curing time ,Injection and manual blow moulding operations, Film blowing processes.
The industrial visit provides in depth knowledge to students about various state-of-the-art machines and CNC machinery for product design and development, Testing and Calibration facility for quality instrument calibration, CAD/CAM/CAE department provides world class technology and engineering services with an excellent combination of engineering knowledge, software skills and industrial experience.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was set up in the year 2008 with an undergrad Engineering program in Mechanical Engineering. Since its commencement, the Department has ceaselessly developed and taken drives to bestow quality instruction and teach research fitness in Mechanical Engineering understudies. In the previous six years, the office has seen a great deal of improvement in scholastics to upgrade information, abilities and perspectives in understudies. This was feasible because of persevering educating and non-showing personnel and the help from the liberal administration. Our framework has been cutting edge. Head of Department

Mr Shiv Kumar Tripathi has completed his M. Tech (CAD) from Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University Lucknow. He has more than 10 years of teaching experience. After completing his B. Tech in the year 2007, he started his carrier in teaching. In his teaching career, he has supervised more than 15 postgraduate and more than 60 undergraduate students. As an author and co-author, he published more than 15 research papers.
